Downngrading firmware

Im not sure if this should be here or not. Mods can move it if it is in the wrong forum.

I have a question about firmware downgrading. I updated to 4.0 mistakenly
If i reformat my hard drive and reinstall 3.55 will i be able to jailbreak it?
