Hello everyone! I've just recently bought a second-hand PS3 slim and I've been lucky enough to get a CECH2002B on 4.25, which I've read is jailbreakable with the right hardware and some time. Now I'm familiar with flashing my console, I owned a PS3 back in 2010 and had it jailbroken within a week of the process going public. I sold it in 2011 though so I've been out of the scene for a year and a half and there's so much information flying around I'm not really sure what to take in and what to ignore.
As of now the only option involves soldering the inside of my PS3, right? I'm willing to give it a shot but I had a bit of a scare soldering some parts inside a Wii in the past and this looks a bit more complicated than that :p Am I right in understanding that there may be a software solution somewhere around the corner for pre-3K consoles? I may wait around for that since it'll take some time for the modding parts to reach my house anyway, I kinda live in the middle of nowhere.
My last question (and I guess the most important, in the short term): Is it 'safe' to upgrade to 4.31? I want to get online and download my old profile to the console and I can't do that without updating. I'd backed up my original PS3 before I sold it but it seems like a lot of stuff didn't copy over. Will upgrading from 4.25 to 4.31 possibly make a future software modification more difficult? I'd sooner wait around and download my profile another day than do it now if it's going to delay my jailbreak.
