I was recently given a Fat PS3 that was in terrible shape. Free PS3, but flipping thing has problems. The drive would read any PS2 or DVD movie I throw at it, but my PS3 games won't work. Someone had attempted to fix the drive, but no metal cover or screws for the drive. They even broke the wire for the sensor that detects a disk being inserted.
I fixed all that and even cleaned the laser with 91% rubbing alcohol. Formatted the HD and rebuilt the database. It's improving as the Blu-Ray games would work after running the machine for 5 minutes. It makes no sense though.
I know people end up replacing the blu-ray laser, but is that my situation? Do I need to clean the laser again?
